Due to the countless types of ships and designs, there are great differences in fire protection solutions for shipping, but they all have one thing in common: their determination and commitment to prevent fires on ships at all costs.
As external assistance takes considerably longer than on land, internal extinguishing systems are much more important. There is a wide range of options for ensuring optimum fire protection. For example, combinations of equipment monitoring, fire suppression systems for engine rooms and cabinets and fire detection systems for passenger and crew areas are often used.
The high demands placed on extinguishing systems on ships also entail stricter requirements than on land. An extinguishing system must not simply be triggered automatically, but must be activated by the person responsible for the ship. The challenges when selecting and installing extinguishing systems on ships are often the extremely limited space available in engine rooms and the weight of extinguishing systems, which severely restricts the payload capacity of the ships.
Over the last two decades, degesa has equipped well over 100 ships of various types and classes with Stat-X aerosol fire suppression systems and is familiar with the procedures and requirements of the shipping industry.
Stat-X® aerosol fire suppression systems are installed directly in the engine room or other risk zones, eliminating the need for piping or cylinder rooms. They can be triggered manually and/or automatically and flood the room with a potassium aerosol that interrupts the chain reaction of a fire. This extinguishes the fire within seconds and prevents the fire from spreading and the hull from heating up. The aerosol remains in the room for up to two hours and prevents re-ignition.
